Als Info:
In Europa werden die Reglemente der Pro Mod harmonisiert, d.h., für ganz Europa gelten die gleichen Regeln (IHRA).
Was neu ist für uns:

-statt 706 jetzt neu max.

Pro Modified will be in the FIA Rule Book starting with the 2004 edition, says Lars Pettersson, FIA Drag Racing Commission member and Chairman of the Drag Racing Committee of the Swedish Automobile Sport Federation. The long-expected inclusion is designed to harmonise the Swedish, English and other European rules and is the result of wide-ranging discussions with Pro Mod racers.

"We started to work on this a year ago", says Lars. "We discussed the rules with the European Pro Mod Association, and worked closely with Micke Gullquist, Andy Robinson and UK Tech Inspector Geoff Martin. The proposal went to the FIA Commission and they said yes, so it went to the World Motorsport Council last Friday. I expect to see the rules in the updated FIA rule book shortly."

The FIA rules are based on the Swedish and English rule books, which themselves were very close. "The FIA rules are very similar to the IHRA and NHRA rules but in Europe we do not have the same commercial considerations", says Lars. "So for example if after a couple of events the overdrive rules were not working out then we could change them if we had to."

Lars says that Swedish Pro Mod racers will be following the FIA rule book in 2004, and he expects that Norway, Finland and other Scandinavian countries will follow suit. "I hope that the rest of Europe will follow the rules too", says Lars. "There are issues with the English racers, for example the rules regarding beadlock wheels, but we think that we can work out any problems."

Lars is keen to stress that the inclusion of Pro Mod in the FIA rule book does not mean that the class will be included in the FIA Championship, at least in the immediate short term. "An FIA European Pro Mod Championship is the eventual aim", says Lars, "but the idea to begin with is that everyone in Europe runs to the same rules. So for example when NDRS Bilsport Pro Mod racers go to England there will be no question that everyone is running the same weight breaks, and so performances will be consistent and unquestioned at whichever track."

Racers, Clubs and promoters will continue to be consulted as the season goes on and the rules bed-in, continuing the theme of co-operation. "I think it's a good thing that all of the racers have been involved from the start", says Lars. "I hope that it will be a good Christmas present for Pro Mod!"
