Did you check if the boosters were leaking at idle before you pulled the carb off? I would have done that first since a too high float adjustment might have been the problem. Did you change the timing between the two carbs?
In any case. Since you've already pulled the carb off and insured that you are operating on the idle circuilt and you have gas all over the place. :-) With the carb turned over, you should see a little flat head set screw on the side of the carb from the bottom. It is on the outside border (passenger side) of the carb. This is used to adjust how far open the secondaries are when they are all the way close. Adjust this screw in (which will open your secondaries) until the secondary idle transfer slots make a square. I don't think that will fix your problem unless you had leaking boosters, but who knows...
So, if your boosters are leaking at idle, first lower your float level, then check back in with the board if it's still dieseling.
