Manfred,
Ranking qualifiers is a possibility. It is not a must. In OSL we have the racers pair themselves. The race organization only divides them into three bracket windows or classes if you will. A racer is not allowed, once grouped into a bracket window or class to go to another class during elimination runs.
A racer is allowed to change his/her dial-in every run with max 0,5 sec. The new dial-in should stay within the class limits.
Our phylosophy is that entry classes in dragracing should have a low threshold and simpel rules.
If you want to rank qualifiers the best way is to rank them on reaction time. There is also a possibility to do it on how close they ran on the dial-in but that is tricky as the organizatio needs to determine the index on car weight, power adders, engine displacement etc. This makes the bracket class quite complex. Which is fine when you have a long bracket history and many people know the drill.
In Holland they will change to bracket as well.
