What is the rest of your engine combination? I would have a hard time believing that you are pulling less than 6.5 inches of vacuum cruising. Lowering your PV number is possibly going to give you a hesitation between your cruise and power circuits.
Of course check your idle mixture screws and insure that your primary throttle blades aren't open too much. You just want it on the idle circuit. If you flip the carb over, and open the throttle you will see an idle transfer slow per throttle bore. Perfectly set, when the throttle blades are closed you should only see enough of the idle transfer slots to create a little "box". If they are open too much, you will start pulling fuel out of your main circuit.
Also ensure that your floats aren't set too high. If you have the float bowls off, you should be able to flip the bowl upside down and insert a 3/8 (10mm) drill bit between the float and top of the bowl. If you can't insert the bit, then your floats are too high.
Cheers,
Alex
