In the first picture you can see that the vent is covered while the race car is being towed back from the run, most teams do this.

(Danke Tony für die Antwort, ich weiß nicht, ob Sally schon so gut englisch kann)
Der Schnorchel ist der Lufteinlaß für die Tank-Entlüftung.
Die braucht jeder Tank, damit ein bißchen Luft hereinkommt,
wenn das Benzin herausgesaugt wird.
Auch dein JD hat bestimmt so ein kleines Loch im Tank-Deckel.
Wenn die Entlüftung verstopft, kann kein Sprit mehr zum Motor kommen,
und er geht aus...
Weil die Top Fueler einen SEHR hohen Verbrauch haben,
(Burnout und Lauf ca. 60 Liter) und SEHR viel Nitro herausgepumpt wird,
benutzen die den Fahrtwind, um extra viel Luft in den Tank hereinzudrücken,
deshalb der nach vorne gerichtete Schnorchel.

@ sally... was gibt es da zu überlegen... da legen wir doch gleich nen treuhandfond an... damit dann auch die finanzierung steht...quasi Fansfueler in Deutschland.

Sally is one of our young and very enthusiastic junior dragster drivers, she is 9 years old and a very good driver. 2007 was her second season as far as I know.
For her age she certainly knows what she wants and she loves the quartermile and a driver to look forward to in the future of european drag racing.
The last couple of years we have had some very talented young drivers and it is great to see so many young girls and guys really interested in the sport and doing great jobs.
